Ralph has been advising clients on accounting and tax matters since 1995. He received his auditing and accounting training from KPMG, and later joined their Consulting division to specialise in taking companies to the London Stock Exchange.
When looking for an accountant, it is reassuring to learn we know how to create wealth from our various commercial interests, and not just competently deal with the administration of running a business.
Ralph now enjoys using his entrepreneurial experience to guide new and existing clients to achieve their goals.
Ralph has spent the last decade working in the construction sector. He gained an MSc in Risk and Safety leadership in 2022, his CIOB chartered status in 2024, and obtained a Level 6 Diploma in Building and Fire Safety Management in 2025. These recent certificates have been added to a string of professional qualifications in accounting, auditing, tax, sales, marketing, and business management. As a past chair of the IET's Engineering Safety Policy Panel, his continuing work on several built environment institutional working groups is aimed at promoting more informed use of academic corporate risk principles in smaller SME enterprises. He continues to advise clients on building safety, accounting and tax matters operating in the built environment sector.
As a past accounting software developer, Ralph has recognised the significant advances made in the quality of commercially available accounting and business management software. He is now developing training programmes to help MAAP's client take advantage of what they have to offer, with specific regard to the HMRC's MTD compliance programmes that begin in April 2026.
He began with a successful early career in sales and marketing in the pharmaceutical industry after gaining a BSc Hons Degree in medical sciences. Recognising he needed a business qualification, he joined KPMG several years later to retrain as an auditor and accountant and embarked on a successful corporate career.
As often happens, Ralph was invited to give up his corporate career, and take a risky flier to join two other like-minded entrepreneurs to develop a new accounting software product. Working on a shoe-string budget in the proverbial garden shed, they created a market leading product that was eventually sold to Sage Plc. As a result of this experience, Ralph enjoyed many years as a consultant on Company Act law and software change management.
It was inevitable that he would start his own firm of accountants (MAAP Accountants) in 1994, which has remained his base of operations ever since.
Ralph has lectured on medicine, accounting, law, H&S, building safety and fire risk compliance.
